An expansion project for Yuba-Sutter Disposal Inc.’s Integrated Waste Recovery Facility in Marysville can go forward without further environmental reports, according to a city report.

The project at the former landfill will allow YSDI to increase the amount of material it processes each day and the total amount of feedstock and compost material it can have daily.

YSDI General Manager Dave Vaughn said the expansion is needed because of the area’s increasing population.

“It’s going to allow us to serve our community better,” Vaughn said.

There were some concerns raised in the report, but most related to the increased traffic at the facility. The number of vehicles hauling materials in and out of the site would increase from 560 to 975 per day. The dust being kicked into the air by more vehicles on North Levee Road was seen as a significant problem in the report.

YSDI’s plan calls for speed limits and adding moisture to the dirt roads in the facility to cut back on the dust.

A right turn lane with a deceleration lane was also proposed in the plans to cut back on the added traffic congestion in 2010. Vaughn said he hopes to get funds for that expansion through grants.

The study can be reviewed by the public and is available at City Hall, 526 C St. The city is accepting public comments on the project through the end of August.
